OpenAI GPT-5 and GPT-5 mini are now generally available in GitHub Copilot

OpenAI’s GPT-5 and GPT-5 mini are now generally available in GitHub Copilot.

Availability in GitHub Copilot

GPT-5 mini is available to all GitHub Copilot plans, including Copilot Free, while GPT-5 is available only to paid Copilot plans. You can access both models in GitHub Copilot Chat on github.com, VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, Eclipse, and in GitHub Mobile through the chat model picker.

Enabling access

Copilot Enterprise and Business administrators must opt in by enabling the new GPT-5 and GPT-5 mini policy in Copilot settings. Once enabled, users in that organization will see the models in the model picker across all supported IDEs.

For individual paid plans, enable either model by selecting it in the model picker in any supported IDE and confirming the one-time prompt.
