Social login with Google is now generally available

GitHub now supports social login with Google!

You can now signup for a new GitHub account with your trusted Google social credentials in just a few clicks. You can also secure your existing GitHub accounts by linking your social login email to the account, letting you use your social credentials as a password-replacement the next time you log in to GitHub. For further security, we recommend you configure 2FA and add a passkey or a password as an additional account recovery mechanism.

Social login support for GitHub is also integrated with Visual Studio Code (VS Code). VS Code users looking to explore GitHub Copilot can now easily signup for GitHub by using their Google accounts instead of creating and managing a separate GitHub password.
