Delegate tasks to Copilot coding agent from the GitHub MCP server

The GitHub MCP server now includes a tool that enables you to delegate tasks to GitHub Copilot coding agent to work on in the background. Now you can start tasks with Copilot from any MCP host application, without breaking your flow.

Alongside github.com, GitHub Mobile, GitHub CLI, and GitHub Copilot Chat, the GitHub MCP server lets you hand routine tasks to Copilot right from where you work.

Getting started

  1. Install the remote GitHub MCP server in your favorite IDE or agentic coding tool with support for remote MCP servers.

  2. In chat, ask Copilot to create a new pull request in your repository.

  3. Continue coding, attending meetings, or working on other priorities. Copilot will work in the background and notify you when the pull request is ready for review.
